Anaheim Guide

If your travel plans are going to take you to California there is no better place to visit than Anaheim. The 54th largest population in the United States and the 10th largest in California, the city of Anaheim offers an ideal destination for all family members.

The most common attraction in Anaheim is Disneyland Resort, home to Disneyland Park, Disney’s California Adventure, Downtown Disney district, ESPN Zone and House of Blues; you can also visit Adventure City, Angel Stadium of Anaheim, the Honda Center, The Grove of Anaheim (formerly Sun Theatre) and Anaheim Convention Center.

Disney’s California Adventure is divided into five theme parks which offers everything from 20th Century aviation days, to boardwalks, and ‘bugs land’ to name a few.  Rides are considered classic but there are some thrill rides for those who prefer those.  Family style rides include “Soarin’ over California and the employees are all friendly and helpful. The best time to visit this location of late winter or early spring, especially weekdays.

For those who enjoy sports, Anaheim is home to the NBADL (Basketball) Expansion team Anaheim Arsenal, National Hockey Team the Anaheim Ducks, and the 2002 World Baseball champions the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Anaheim has several notable natives and residents including singer Gwen Stefani, astronaut Joseph Acaba, US Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez and Bobby Hatfield co-founder of the Righteous Brothers.

Anaheim’s most important industry is tourism, and it is ranked as one of the safest cities of its size in the nation, with a very low overall crime rate.

Anaheim was founded in 1857 by wine makers and grape farmers from Franconia in Bavaria and in the 20’s was a model city of the Ku Klux Klan. In 1924, nine of the ten members of the police force were Klansmen and four of the five Board of Trustees of the police force were Klansmen until they were exposed and voted out in a recall election that 95% of the residents voted in. Today, Anaheim has a very diverse racial and ethnic population after late 20th century population growth and is recognized as a resort epicenter. In 2007, Anaheim celebrated their sesquicentennial and opened the Anaheim Walk of Fame – the first star on that walk of fame was that of Gene Autry who contributed to the arrival of the California Angels (professional baseball), the first west coast baseball team.
