Boston Guide
The largest city (as well as the capital) of Massachusetts, traveling to Boston is always fun and exciting. Boston is considered the unofficial economic and cultural center of New England (Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine)and is the 11th largest metropolitan area in the United States.
There are hundreds of sites to see in Boston, history to be re-lived (including the Boston Massacre, Boston Tea Party, etc.) and there are many firsts to be found including the first Public School (Boston Latin School 1635) and the first college (Harvard College 1636). Boston also boasts bragging rights to the first subway system in the United States.
Boston also lays claim to some notable ‘Bostonians’ including John, Samuel and John Quincy Adams and Benjamin Franklin (and too many others to list), but Boston also is home to countless two and four year colleges, and a high concentration of medical and research facilities including the first municipal hospital in the United States which today is known as Boston Medical Center (formerly Boston City Hospital).
Boston of course is home to not only the Boston Red Sox major league baseball team but also to the New England Patriots, the Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins, New England Revolution (soccer), Boston Cannons & Blazers (lacrosse) and New England Riptide (softball) – and Boston fans are known all over the place for their love of sports.
Boston offers something for everyone – whether you’re into history – Granary Burying Grounds, Massachusetts State House, Paul Revere House, the USS Constitution, Old City Hall, Boston National Historical Park, Castle Island, Custom House Tower, Faneuil Hall, Boston Public Gardens, or museums – Boston Athenaeum (oldest independent library in the US), Boston Children’s Museum, Harvard University Art Museums, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, MIT Museum, Museum of Science (which includes an IMAX and planetarium), New England Aquarium (and others), or for those who love the outdoors – Boston Public Gardens, Garden of Peace, Boston Common to name a few, or performing arts – Boston Opera House, Symphony Hall and Citi Performing Arts Center and more– there is something for everyone in Boston!
For those who love great food, there’s no better place than Boston to explore a variety of culinary delights from Union Oyster House (the oldest restaurant in continuous service in the United States) to the many fine restaurants in Chinatown and the North End.
